Page protection for script

[edit]

Hello, I've created a script; please permanently protect these pages with Autopatroller protection:

Pages with JavaScript are automatically protected, right?

Thank you.-- Zyirkon (talk) 17:08, 30 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Zyirkon: I'm confused. (1) Why are these in User space? (2) Are you wanting any higher level of protection than autoconfirmed (which I will add now) and if so, why? - Jmabel ! talk 00:17, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
1. Why shouldn't the script be in my user space? As far as I know, there are no rules about that, and I've seen several scripts in user space before. 2. Yes, please only allow the listed pages to be edited as auto-patroled. No one should need to change anything without my permission. Zyirkon (talk) 12:29, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Archive of talk pages. heylenny (talk/edits) 00:46, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Not done @Heylenny What do you want us to do here? If you cannot be bothered to explain yourself why should admins do anything? Gbawden (talk) 06:22, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Protect the pages. Isn't it obvious? heylenny (talk/edits) 13:59, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Nope it's not. Generally talk page archives aren't protected, mine certainly aren't. Are they being vandalised? Herby talk thyme 14:28, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I understand that talk page archives are generally not protected. But I wanted these pages to be protected to preserve their history and prevent future edits, such as cross-wiki vandalism. The same way I did on my Portuguese Wikipedia, I would appreciate if the same could be applied here. Thanks and happy new year. heylenny (talk/edits) 14:51, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
"But I wanted these pages to be protected to preserve their history and prevent future edits, such as cross-wiki vandalism" In future this is what you need to tell us. Admins are not mind readers and some of my colleagues are understandably irritated having to guess all the time Gbawden (talk) 16:15, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Gbawden: I thought this page called "blocks and protections" was for that purpose. Anyway, you're not a "mind reader" but I'm glad you were able to read that in quotation marks. It would have been enough to say that the protection would be for the future; these ironic comments were unnecessary. heylenny (talk/edits) 16:20, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Also, it’s not only about "vandalism". I'm simply requesting protection to avoid confusion between the archives and the active talk page. For example, on Portuguese Wikipedia, my archive was mistaken for the current page, and it was protected to prevent that from happening again. I'm just asking for the same here. What's the matter, anyway? heylenny (talk/edits) 16:27, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
There is nothing in the protection or archiving policies that prevents this type of protection. Is this interpretation simply a matter of discretion?? heylenny (talk/edits) 16:30, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but there is a strong bias (not in a bad sense) against protecting pages. For an example of why, we have bots that remove misplaced LTR/RTL marks that have as much reason to hit archived pages as anything else. (There are other similar examples, but I'm not writing an essay here.) Usually, we don't protect pages like this unless there is a specific reason to be concerned about vandalism to that particular page. I just somewhat reluctantly protected some pages far more sensitive than a talk archive, and even there I took a minute or two to think over whether it was justifiable. - Jmabel ! talk 20:06, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
So it's a matter of interpretation. The admin decides whether or not to protect the page. Understood. heylenny (talk/edits) 20:12, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

File:Mario Pancini (1960).jpg and File:G. Dal Piaz.jpg are getting repeated requests for renaming from temporary accounts. Those requests have been declined by two different filemovers. Please could they be semi-protected? One of the temporary users in question is ~2025-43887-24 blocked in a section above, but now ~2025-44107-45 has taken over. --bjh21 (talk) 11:50, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

More Dylam X socks

[edit]

The following accounts have been confirmed via CU on English Wikipedia to a suspected sock of Dylam X:

Only HeraldryUser has made edits, but the other two have accounts and could be used to further the abuse. I'll also file the relevant global lock requests. Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 19:48, 1 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Protect temporary ruwiki logo for New Year 2026

[edit]

Please add full protection to the following files, which are used as a logo temporarily. The discussion is at ru:Википедия:Форум/Общий#Голосование за новогодний логотип.

Temporary protection for approximately a week should be enough – previous temporary logo was reverted on 2025-01-03 (ru:Special:Diff/142470461).

Technical details: the files are used by ru:MediaWiki:Gadget-logo.css (as of ru:Special:Permalink/150877287). —andrybak (talk) 11:01, 2 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Requesting indefinite block

User is a single-purpose account that has repeatedly uploaded and re-uploaded copyrighted images about w:Diablo IV (see upload log)

At 14:56 UTC, 27 December 2025, they uploaded File:Диабло 4.png, which was deleted at 17:01 as a copyvio

At 17:51, they uploaded File:Diablo IV infobox.jpg, which was deleted at 19:40 as another copyvio

On 29 December, they recreated the infobox file; it was re-deleted the next day

On 31 December, they apparently decided to game file formats and create the currently-live File:Диабло 4.jpg, which I nominated for speedy deletion today

Per their global contributions, the only other project they've edited on is Serbian Wikipedia Whyiseverythingalreadyused (Wikipedia talk · Global contributions · he/him) 11:59, 2 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

As an add-on, w:sr:Датотека:Diablo IV cover art.png is uploaded locally as a non-free video game cover (I spent some time figuring out the Serbian template for such covers) Whyiseverythingalreadyused (Wikipedia talk · Global contributions · he/him) 12:13, 2 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Withdrawn as they are now blocked from Commons Whyiseverythingalreadyused (Wikipedia talk · Global contributions · he/him) 12:14, 2 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Ayakln

[edit]

Ayakln was blocked across multiple Wiki projects due to vandalism. This user then created sock puppets Mailna (confirmed by ENWP) and  It looks like a duck to me Ayaklm that continues to be active on Commons. The user has created some minor disturbances on Graphic Lab and does not communicate with the rest of us. -- Designism (talk) 02:57, 3 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
